Sport Horse Mares |
|
|
While our primary interest is breeding
purebred Irish Draughts, sporthorse breeding is an important part of the
stud. Many owners - of varying breeds of mares - choose to use an
RID stallion to put size, substance, and temperament into the
'mix'. Having a variety of mares - and their offspring - allows us
to show mare owners the sort of foal they might get from different types
of mares. |

Bazaar's Brook
By Enniskeane Prince R.I.D. x Wardbrooke (TB)
Brook was purchased towards the
end of the 2001-2003 hunting season from the High Peak Harriers, where
she hunted hounds, to fulfill the same role at the United
Pack.
Brook
is a stylish example of the Irish Sport Horse. She started as a
novice eventer and has very good action, speed and a good jump. Her dam also produced the coloured Sport Horse, Bazaar's Texas.
Brook is shown here
with her first foal - a filly by Raj (born 2004). See more here and
a picture diary of the foaling here. Sadly,
Brook lost her 2005 pregnancy but has produced another nice
filly in 2006.

Sister Scarlet (Ire) TB
By The Parson x Irish Hill Lass (x Prominer)
(G.S.B. Vol.32 p 1079)
This jumping-bred Irish TB mare is
only 15.2 hh but we
thought Lady's Tralee Raj had more than enough height and bone to help her produce an
outstanding sport horse.
She proved immensely difficult in 2003
and did not get in foal. We tried again for several cycles with
Raj in 2004 - without luck. Silent heats and persistent
follicles abounded - we gave up and sent her to Twemlows where she was AI'd to Oberon.
It was a successful liaison - with a nice colt foal born.
She
returned to Raj for 2006 - producing a smart colt.

|
In 2005, we added several new mares to
the herd.

Katie
This 16.2 hh chestnut mare is a very typical Irish
Sport Horse - by a TB stallion out of an 'Irish' mare of unrecorded
breeding.
She was a first class hunter (if a little
explosive!) and was ridden by both the whipper-in and the huntsman of
the United Pack. A new whipper-in came complete with own horses so
she was brought home to start life as a brood mare. She was the
first to foal in 2006 - see more of Katie and her colt Charlie here.

Smint
Another mare initially bought for
hunt service.
She foaled to Raj in early July 2005
and Trebor will be a quality Middleweight type with good paces and an
excellent temperament. He is greying out nicely!
Smint returned to hunt service for
the 2007-8 season, teaching a young whipper-in his job! |

Another Nancy (we just call her Nancy)
This NH Thoroughbred mare first visited Raj in 2003,
and in 2004 produced this smart colt who impressed her owner so much he
promptly booked her in again. Sadly, the next colt died at 6 weeks
old, and Nancy returned again to Raj. Her owner decided he didn't
have enough time for a brood-mare and Nancy has stayed with us. She
produced a super filly on 4th June.

|
And here's Another Nancy with her 2006
foal, Liza (with a Z). We're hopeful she WILL stay chestnut - no
signs of greying yet.
